American depository receipts of European stocks were 0.4% lower at 117.75 on the Bank of New York Mellon Europe ADR Index on Monday morning.

Decliners in Continental Europe were led by Marine Harvest (MHG), a Norwegian seafood company, 4.0% lower, followed by Ascendis Pharma (ASND), a Danish clinical stage biopharmaceutical company, down by 2.2% and French energy company Total (TOT), 1.4% lower. Aixtron (AIXG), a German provider of deposition equipment to the semiconductor industry, was 1.3% lower.

In the UK, Pearson (PSO), an education company, was 9.1% lower after the provider of academic textbooks, courseware, certifications and online learning resources, posted a decline in sales for the past three quarters. Amec Foster Wheeler (AMFC), a global engineering conglomerate, down by 3.7% and Adaptimmune Therapeutics (ADAP), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company, 1.8% lower. Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) was 1.6% lower.

Gainers in Continental Europe were led by Sequans Communications (SQNS), a French developer of chipset solutions, 5.2% higher, followed by CGG (CGG), a manufacturer of geophysical equipment, up by 3.0% and Italian telecommunications company Telecom Italia (TI), 2.3% higher. Aegon – New York Shares (AEG), a Dutch life insurance, pensions and asset management company, was 1.7% higher.

In the UK, Midatech Pharma (MTP), an early-stage biopharmaceutical company, was 3.7% higher, followed by telecommunications company BT Group (BT) and Amarin (AMRN), a biopharmaceutical company, both 1.0% higher, and low-cost airline Ryanair (RYAAY), 0.9% higher.
